Seeking the Heart of Jesus

SEEKING THE HEART OF JESUS

Deanery/Parish Scripture Groups

The Year of Faith is finally here and we have been asked to discover anew the beauty of our rich faith and what it means to be a Catholic. At the recent Synod in Rome, Archbishop Bernard said that “The New Evangelization is not a new strategy or a programme...it involves falling in love with the person of Jesus Christ and His Bride, the Catholic Church.”  In responding to this invitation, the 2nd Friday Mission together with Mgr. Pat McKinney (Dean of Dudley Deanery) have created a new Scripture resource to help people come to know and encounter Jesus Christ.  The theme for this series is “Seeking the Heart of Jesus”; with each session looking at the personality, action and ministry of Jesus in a particular piece of Scripture.

Two elements make this a little different from other initiatives: teaching is delivered via a podcast and the group will rotate between 3 parishes in the Dudley Deanery over the coming year.  The use of a podcast means the resource can be used freely across the diocese for personal or group reflection on the Scriptures.  In moving around the Deanery we recognize that parishes will need to work together more closely in the future. This initiative presented as a great opportunity to use God’s Word to start building links across the deanery and to support each other in actively living out the Gospel Message.

Combining teaching, Lectio Divina and discussion, its’ launch in October at St Chad’s, Sedgely was a great success.  With a good turnout from 5 parishes across the deanery, it was a fantastic opportunity to meet new people, participate in some fruitful discussion and get enthused about future possibilities of mission together.

If you have missed any of the sessions and would like to catch up, you can listen to it here:

We encourage you to join us in this initiative as part of your response to the Year of Faith.  If you can’t make the Dudley Deanery sessions, then why not consider setting a group up in your own area? For more details on how to do this, please email: birminghamyoungadults@gmail.com
